Bat Trang Pottery/Ceramic Village: Bat Trang Pottery Village is located in the south east of Hanoi, passing Chuong Duong Bridge turns right and go about 10km along the dike of Red River. Its name popular to most tourists to northern Vietnam because its ever famous ceramic and pottery products of high quality. If you have known about Vietnam, you may not be surprised that Bat Trang’s vases, bowls, dishes, and many other kinds of ceramic products have been exported worldwide. Should you would like to contemplate workers making ceramic products by hand, just come here! What’s more, you can also try it yourself!
Dong Ho Painting Village or Vietnamese woodblock prints refers to a Vietnamese folk art originating in Dong Ho Village, Song Ho Commune, Thuan Thanh County of Bac Ninh Province (north of Hanoi). It is one of the most popular Vietnamese folk arts.
It was a "must have" of every vietnamese household for Tet, vietnamese new year.
The prints in Dong Ho are made with local wood and paper. The paint is also made from local organic materials and is applied to wood and pressed on paper. The process is repeated with different colors
Dong Ho paintings mainly reflect the aspiration for a peaceful, happy and prosperous life. Dear animals in people’s life, such as cow, pig, dog, cat and chicken are also depicted in a lot of paintings. Especially, some paintings like “catching coconuts”, “mice wedding” and “jealously” attract the attention of many domestic and foreign visitors.
Dong Ky wood carving village is well-known for its craft of making things of wood with high artistic sophistication. The whole village, in the day-time is full of sawing and chiselling sounds. The main articles made there are furniture of high quality: tables, chairs, cupboards and ornate beds.
There are not only traditional models such as cupboards, ornate beds, etc. but also modern ones: drawing-room furniture, wardrobes, etc. As to the decoration, everything is artistically carved and also inlaid with mother-of-pearl of seven colours. The motifs are numerous: grass, flowers, trees, leaves, butterflies, bees or human figures, river and mountain and so on. You will surely be surprised by the highly artistic products of modest ordinary artisans.
Itinerary:
08h00: You will get pick up at your hotel, it takes you about 45 minutes going along the Red River to reach Bat Trang pottery village. You will walk around the village, visit families that have the workshop of making the pottery. See how the villagers find the mud, how to make the potteries and draw on them...You also can do pottery for yourself for souvenir.
09h00: Visit the pottery market beside the river where you will see numourous kind of pottery products in many beautiful colours.
10h30: car take you throught the rice field to get to " Dong Ho" painting village. Here, you will find the special paints made by the artists.
You will know about the way they make the paper, the way the paint and also talk with the old painters.
11h30: Have lunch in the restaurant.
13h00: Visit the Capentry village - Dong Ky village. This is the most famous carpentry village in Vietnam. They make many beautiful products with carving nice pictures on them. You can buy some small products for souvenirs here.
